River Valley Adult Learning Alliance Receives $6,870.00 Grant from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation to Support Adult Literacy!

Dardanelle, Arkansas 5-20-2020 – The Dollar General Literacy Foundation recently awarded The River Valley Adult Learning Alliance a $6,8700.00 grant to support adult literacy.  This local grant is part of more than $8.6 million in grants awarded to more than 950 schools, nonprofits and organizations across the communities Dollar General serves.

“This generous award makes our work possible,” says director Meredith Martin-Moats. “In this moment when our communities are struggling more than ever, this funding will allow us to fund Americorps tutors for adults in Franklin, Pope, and Yell Counties, which, in turn, will help more adults pass their GEDS and find employment. This will also allow us to purchase much needed English as a Second Language curriculum material. We’ll also be able to expand our work into more rural communities at a time when a lack of broadband access is exasperating divides.”

The River Valley Adult Learning Alliance provides free, quality, instruction and support to adults and families in Franklin, Johnson, Logan, Pope and Yell Counties. Formerly known as the RIver Valley Literacy Council, the Alliance believes in building strong partnerships within our communities to help adults and families meet their self appointed learning goals. These goals can include literacy, learning English, finding employment, gaining technology skills, or passing tests such the GED.  The Alliance partners closely with other organizations in the area to help fill gaps and provide individualized, free tutoring  to help adults and families succeed. Community members interested in becoming a student or tutor should contact the director, Meredith Martin-Moats at 479-957-0551.
