Marla Nester has lived in Franklin County for many generations and is loved and respected by the community. She retired from Wal-Mart in Ozark after many decades of service. She has 3 children, 7 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 1 on the way.”I have found,you are never too old to learn,” says Nester. “I would like to be one of the people, that helps people go as far as they can in life.”

Meet Yomaira! She is a student at Arkansas Tech University where she is studying to be a Spanish teacher. She has an associate degree in Applied Science Business Technology. She speaks and reads Spanish and English fluently and she loves to help the community. She is also a volunteer interpreter for the Mount George Church of Christ for the Food on the Mountain program.

Bev Donner
Americorps Arkansas READS! member serving in Pope County.
Bev served as school psychologist and a licensed psychological examiner in both Indiana and Northwest Arkansas. She helped design and implement psychological services for the Schmieding Developmental Center in Springdale, provided comprehensive school psychology services at the elementary and secondary level in the Springdale schools, and was the only school psychologist for the districts 4,000 student high school. “Reading has opened so many doors for me,” explains Bev. “It’s been the base and stability in my life.”.
