Readers age 18 or over who have the desire to tutor another adult one or two hours a week – or even a few hours a month – can make a huge difference as a volunteer adult literacy tutor or as a volunteer in other capacities for a local literacy council.
Volunteer tutors are trained to work one-on-one with adults who are requesting assistance. Tutors and students can meet at the local library or anywhere in the community at any time of day.
In training, volunteers learn how to work with adults who need to read better and/or learn English as a Second Language (ESL). If you want to become an ESL tutor, you only need to know the English language and have a desire to help the student.
Please email us at rivervalleyliteracycouncil@gmail.com if you have any questions about volunteering with River Valley Adult Learning Alliance.
