Leslie Lopez
Leslie Lopez has been a student with RVALA since January of 2021. She came to us as a recent immigrant who spoke little English. She has averaged over 200 hours of study with us inside the classroom. Thanks to the hot spot, she can triple that amount by using online resources.
When Leslie first came in, she spoke very little English. Now, less than one year later, she is able to communicate well in English and has been using her hot spot to reach her goals! She also brings her son Oliver with her, and he is growing up to be bilingual in English and Spanish.

Emily Rincon
Emily is one of our very own employees who started with us in tutoring. She then went on to complete her degree at ATU, and graduated in August of 2023. She now works with our family literacy program on Monday and Friday evenings. She is a wonderful teacher, and the kids LOVE her!

Brittany Downs
Our hotspot lending program is helping multiple people meet their learning goals. Meet Brittany! She has been using a hot spot to further her education and leadership in the Booneville Community of Logan County.
“The hotspot has helped me meet my goals by accessing the courses needed to develop my technology skills, online literacy, and college coursework to further my career and education, also making me better equipped to help others who may need one-on-one help with basic computer skills.”

Modesta figueroa
Modesta signed up as a student in April 2022. She is a political refugee from Venezuela. Back home she was an accountant. But here she is starting over from scratch. She first began language classes and then signed up for a hot spot a few months ago. When she began classes she spoke almost no English. Now she is able to hold conversations in English, which has helped her greatly in her work at Tyson in Dardanelle. She recently worked with our Americorps member Victor Ruiz to prepare for the accuplacer test and passed her Accuplacer in math with a 95%! She comes to class every Friday and uses her hot spot during the rest of the week to study and prepare to sign up to UACCM. Her next goal is to get into UACCM where she wants to study accounting.
